Windoze XP, IE 7 'recommended' by one of the CT...
No support for Windoze 7 because??? No answer forthcoming...just the recurring mantra
'experiencing problems...contact your tutor'
But...tutor 'forgot' cos of domestic issues to contact me on the arranged date/time
Tutor might be well-intentioned but is busy...
Now, where have I met this before??? Whenever I've come across similar tutors with a similar outcome in more courses than I care to remember...

share n share alike?
It's a great 'temptation' to want to help other students, a hangover from my years in education...but now I'm questioning how this is received by fellow students. Am I as the quote says 'chiming in too often'?
I came across this image which helps me understand marine food webs.

TMAs
Downloaded TMAs and made Word copies to work on. Read thro' and noted knowledge links.
People still having problems with document downloads, some labelled pdf turn out to be online documents only.
3 weeks to go before the official start date and some folk still going on n on about document formats. But it's level 3 so working with documents ought to be second nature by now surely?
I keep on having to change rendering engines from Firefox to IE and that's not good. Since the OU recommend Firefox in other courses why can't they used joined-up -thinking!

still
getting used to the 'new' conferencing system using Google.
Good point - it's easily accessible and can use RSS feeds. But, I miss the friendliness and ease of use of the FirstClass system.
Seems fragmented and repetitive as folk can 'meet up' thro' the Student Home page, and someone has set up a Facebook page as well.
People have yet to learn how to follow the threads, posting has become muddled with the 'Hello everyone' posts in amongst Block 1.
Hope the moderators untangle everything before it becomes too confusing.
There are the usual problems with people having different tech backgrounds. Some had never come across Netiquette!
With some folk on Windoze, others attempting to use Mac there's problems because of different browsers.
Documents that can be accessed using Internet Explorer, won't work on Chrome. At least with Firefox there's plenty of useful add ons and work rounds to choose from. Also, web links which work for some, won't work for others!
Add on to that the use of different word processing programmes and the likelihood of 'conflicts' and errors abounds.

let the learning continue?
More precisely, let's revisit skills cultured by S250
Hooray! Chatting online has led to more GUIs becoming live on web pages. Allowed access to various Activities. Also helpful to be able to search for and find/use alternative methods of accessing documents.
Note to self...OU still requires Word documents 2003 style, no docx documents for them. Also, deadlines have been re-set from midnight to noon!
- web activities
- rendering engines
- IE tab for Firefox
- regret FirstClass no longer used for new conferences
- online communication via Google and Facebook, but wouldn't a Yahoo group work better?
- connecting with other students
- Trying to achieve a level playing field

arrival
Course materials, books and DVD have arrived plus the standard 'Welcome to' letter. Only problem is that there's an incorrect web address so although it says course calendar is now accessible - It is Not accessible...
The DVD has a limited amount of material on it including some Statistical data about whales.
Blue, Fin, Humpback, Minke, Sei and Sperm.
From the years 1931-2 to 1999-2000
Not having access yet to the activities, I began making some observations on my own by constructing graphs to show each species according to the years, noting in particular times when there were no catches,
